In September 2003 we, Petra and Hans Jongenelis, went for the first time to Kenia for a holiday. During this holiday we met a Kenian man (Juma), he invited us to visit the village Makongeni where he lives. When we visited this village we were shocked by the poverty and the facts that people hardly had anything to eat. In this time we decided to help the people in this village to give them a chance for a better future.
After research of the village and the possibilities of founding a foundation we decided to found the Foundation Rafiki Kenia. Since that time we started a number of projects, which right now gives a lot of joy and happiness in this village. The goal of every project is to run a project by people overthere after a starting period. Because the people have not enough money, the foundation is buying the necessary materials to start a project. This is possible because of the help from some sponsors.
A few times in a year we go on our own costs to Kenia to check and to controll the projects. Almost every day we have contact by sms or phone with Juma, a vilager who also is our contact and projectleader to controll the projects in Kenia. The Foundation Rafiki Kenia has no travelling, office or staffing costs so that we can spend every euro to the projects themselves. We think every human body is entitled to have a dry place to live, a bed to sleep in, medical care, school, work and ...... to build on their own future. By the help and support of a great deal of people we have already achieved a lot on this village and 2 other villages in the neighbourhood. The happiness and the joy which the people show, because there is really help coming to them, is for us a reason to go on. We hope that many people will follow and help us.
